- A PASSAGE TO INDIA -

Creative Stunts
We were told by our teacher to describe this picture (↓)
1.
Who is the person in the picture?
The girl in the picture is probably just a normal person living in India, on her way home from work.

2.
     What is her profession?
I think her profession is
something that require little bit higher education than other things. Since we can see the big building in the background I think she work on a office maybe.
3.
     Who is she speaking to?
The girl looks happy, she is probably talking to one of her friends or boyfriend, telling them how exciting and challenging her day at work was.
4.
     Where is she going?
She is going home to her family. She lives only few blocks away, in a small, worn house with a sweet little garden.
5.
What is she thinking of right now?
She is thinking of how thankful she is to have all the things she have got in her life, such as friends, family, a nice place to live and a great education while there are thousands of people in her country who lives on the street. Now she is ready to come home and relax.

Checkpoint
I`m going to give each paragraph in the text a title:
"No easy way to independence", “ challenges in process”, “India, becoming a  modern country”, “ caste system”, “Education, the key to a better place” and “ A gap between poor and rich”.

Viewpoints page 265
1.     Rural – is related to farming, agricultural, country life and characteristic of the country.                 Urban – characteristic of the city, city life.
2.      In Norway, the different between rural areas and urban areas is difficult to see. The rural areas are have a lot of farms, agriculture and nature. These days we in Norway are using a lot more machines to help us with the work, while they in India use their own body, hands and animals to do the work. Urban places in Norway are the cities. In the cities, it is less green places and a lot of people and shops. Most of the people who live in Norway are settle close to the cities.
3.      “If everyone in the world consumed as much as people in industrialized countries do, we would need eight planets” Especially people in Europe and America live in a throw- away society, which means you buy new things all the time and throw away old things. When we do this, we use extremely many resources that we should spare for the next generation.
4.      I think the reason that some people want to live a simple life and go back to the nature is because they are tierd of the modern world, tierd of being surrounded by people and new technology. Perhaps they want to feel alone for a while and use the time to relax.
5.      My top three priorities in life:
- My good friends and family <3
- live a life that makes me happy.
- School and afterward work.

ALAN TURING - weakness and strength

Alan Turing was the main character in the movie «The imitation game». As young, Alan Turing was an extremely smart and intelligent boy. He was very god at cracking impossible codes, and under the Second World War, he worked with braking Germans top-secret system, Enigma. As person, Alan preferred to be alone and work by himself. His lack of social skills, made his personality kind of weird and different from other. Although he was one of Britain`s most intelligent men, he lived a though life. Alan was homosexual, which was forbade in Britain in that time.

I think his biggest strength were that he was very patient with his work, and such a genius. The weaknesses that really made his life harder was the problem about being gay, and keep it as a secret, and his lack of social life.

Game all night, sleep all day

TV, iPad, IPhone, computers and video games. What do all these new, modern things have in common? A screen of course, a screen that captures our attention, and makes us addicted to it. Every human being person spend several hours in front of a screen every day instead of going outside and taking walks. Is this healthy for our body, and does it cause any problems for us and the people we interact with?

Often we replace 7 hours with training and activity, with 7 hours in front of a screen. We watch episode after episode on Netflix, and let the time fly away. Suddenly the day is over without doing something. When we get so addicted to the computer, we see training as less important and let it pass away. This happens repeatedly, and become our everyday- life.  Less activity affects your body weight and you`ll probably get fat one day. It`s proved that screen time may also affect what and how much we eat. We may eat more snacks and unhealthy food when we watch TV, especially teenagers. I think that too much time in front of a screen can also cause depression. Teenagers who only sits by themselves, only inn their own company, no social life without taking to people through the internet, become boring and depressed. When you get fat, you will probably be dissatisfied and embarrassed of yourself and your own body. Therefore, you never go outside and hang out with people, so you continue the daily routine you already started.

When we become so addicted to a screen is it hard to stop. Xbox games and computer games makes us stay up all night to continue the next level. When you stay up all night it`s hard to go to work or school, therefore you choose to stay in bed all day instead. I have heard of people who have fallen asleep at work because they stayed up to long at the night, and were fired the next day. Insomnia is a diagnosis you can get as a result of watching too much TV. Insomnia is problem with sleeping.
On the other hand, computers can also be used to something positive. Homework and searching the internet. Most children do use computers for homework. Instead of writing an essay on paper, they write it faster on computer and hand it in over the internet. It`s also much easier to find information on internet, instead of find information in a book. It definitely makes the life easier.

If you are a mum or a dad, you probably recognize yourself living a hectic life. Even though it feels like you can be in two different places at the same time. With your phone, you can stay home doing laundry while you read you work e- mails, but it still feels like the time fly away. Stress effect many, both young and old. When you are busy watching TV in hours, you don`t get other important things done. The feeling you get when you never reach the things that needs to be done, are a feeling named stress.
I think the only way to avoid stress is to do all homework, laundry or whatever needs to be done before you sit down and watch your favourite program on TV.

As a conclusion, I think there is both negative and some few positive sides of spending time in front of a screen. It`s okay to watch TV now and then, but not all the time. As long it does not make problems for your sleep, your health or makes you stressed or exhausted. I think that everyone should have a screen limit. A limit where you can only sit in front of a screen more than 3 hours a day. Especially children should have a screen limit.

The Norwegian dream?

Do we have such a thing as a “Norwegian Dream»? Does it actually exist?
We never hear about someone who want to start over and live a Norwegian dream. This dream may only exist in America. The American dream means some values that are important to people in USA, such as democracy, freedom, justice and so on.. People in Norway do also have these values. What is so special about The American dream that Norway don`t have?

When people hear about Norway they are thinking of ice bears walk along the streets in Oslo, deep, blue fjords and Vikings. Yes, these things are thing we associate with Norway, but there`s not really important. Some of it isn`t even true! Norwegian people are not walking around in “Bunader” every day and living in the beautiful nature. Actually, we are living quite like the American people.

Norway is one of the healthiest countries in the world. We do have a welfare system that ensures us free school, free hospitals and someone to take care of us when we no longer can do it by ourselves. The system we have in Norway is amazing! It helps people no matter how bad you are or deserve it. The constitution guarantees freedom of religion, right to love whomever you want and see equality between women and men. Other important values we have in Norway is democracy. Democracy makes every single person in the society important, and have the opportunity and chance to choose which way the country should be controlled. The “Jante law” is also something that describes how Norwegian people want to be.

I think that people are going to America to start over because it is such a nice and big country, and they have many good values. I think they are going to America instead of Norway because America is a country with a huge population; therefor it is easier to move from place to place, and get a better life (maybe easier to fit in since there is so many people living there).
