Today in class we lisned to two different songs about being alone and about never being alone. The task is to compare, and find the differenses in the texts. The songs we used are called "I am a rock" by Paul Simon, and "You`ll Never Walk Alone" written by Rogers and Hammerstein. We also lisned to a poem by John Donne "No Man is an Island".
"I am a Rock" is the text about being alone. About living in a world with no friends, and nobody standing by your side.The person in the song says that he doen`t need friends. That is because he is scared of getting close to them, and then lose them. He is afraid of being hurt and feel pain. He thinks that friendship causes pain. So instead of being hurt, he choose to live a lonley life.
"You`ll Never Walk Alone" is different from the song above. This song is about always having someone by your side, and it tells us that we are never standing alone, no matter what!
"No Man is an Island" is the poem we read, and I think it`s almost about the same as the song "You`ll never walk alone". The song symbolizes that every person is special, enique and important, and that we humans have to stand together!
