ROAD TRIP!

                                                                    Car- Audi Q7

We chose to rent Audi Q7 over the internet. We thought that was the easiest way to do it, and then we could use all the time exploring the country instead of waiting for a car. We chose Audi Q7 because it`s a nice car with large space in the trunk.

                                                                        Cardiff

The plain finally arraived Cardiff Airport at 10 a.m. after a four hours long flight. The weather was better than expected. The sun shone and it was not a cloud on the sky. It was a perfect day to visit one of Wales`s most important and beautiful parks, Roath Park. When we planned the trip at home we read a lot about it, and it seemed like a place we had to visit. The park opened i 1894, and has a wild range of habitats and animals. One part of the park was used as sports fields where you could play baseball, rugby and tennis. When we walked along the lake, birds where twittering and orange leaves were falling from the threes. It was so beautiful and relaxing beeing there in the autumn.

After some hours in Roath Park, we drove 15 minutes back to the hotel where we ate some food and went to bed.
Next morning we only managed to eat breakfast before we got in the car, and drove towards London.

                                                    Stonehenge

On our second day of the tour we drove from Cardiff to Stonehenge. There we had a stop to see the famous attraction Stonehenge. Stonehenge is a historical monument about 13 km. north west from Salisbury in Wiltshire. This monument was truly build 2000 years before Christ. The monument is one of the worlds most famous buildings. The name come from the old English word Stanhengist that means the hanging stones.

Here is a picture of us in the front of Stonehenge.

                                                           London

We planned to spend two days in London, one for only shopping in oxford street, and one day to look at the attractions. When we finally arrived London the second day on the trip, it was late afternoon. It was difficult to find the hotel, therefore we used more than 15 minutes searching for itThe hotel room was exclusive with a big bathroom and two big beds. This afternoon we had only time for dinner out, and we desided to watch the musical "Grease".

We woke up early next day. Non of us had ever been to London before, it was so exiting to walk down the streets. We chose to visit some of London`s most famous attractions by our selves, not with a guide. First vi walked all the way from our hotel to Madame Tussaud, which is a museum full of dolls made of  wax. The dolls are famous people from all over the world, and the museum are divided into different parts such as: sport, film, royals, music, world leaders, super heroes and so on,,,

Couples of hours later we walk from Madame Tussaud to the next attraction, which was the Buckingham Palace. The Buckingham Palace was orginally built in 1705 for the Duke of Buchingham, but today the palace is used  as ceremonial and official occasions for the Royal Family. We only saw the ceremony called Guard Mounting in front of the  palace. The ceremony involve a new guard exchanging duty with the old guard. It was really funny to see how fast they did it.
Red double decker buses and cabs drove past us down the street all the time. So we thought that when we first are in London we had to take a double decker bus to see the London Eye and the Big Ben.

The rest of the evneing we spent on the hotel room and we went to bed early.
Day number 4. was used to shopping in oxford street. Shops like forever 21., Primark and Zara were shops that we don`t have in Norway. We used A LOT of money that day.

                                                       Liverpool

The fifth day we drove from London to Liverpool. We started to drive from London at 11 a.m. We drove fore two and a half hour to Birmingham where we stopped to eat. Here we ate some fish and chips. When we was finish we sat into the the car and started to drive in the direction Liverpool. When we arrived Liverpool after 2 hours we checked in at the hotel "The Nadler Liverpool". We spend the night looking around in the town and eat. When we woke up the next day we went down to eat some breakfast before we went out shopping. When it went afternoon we went back to the hotel to do ready fore the football match and conducted tour at Anfield. Liverpool was going to play against Swansea. The football match was amazing and Liverpool won 4-3 and the conducted tour was so cool. After a long night with football we went back to the hotel to get some sleep before we were going to fly back to Norway the next morning. Day 6 started early at 6 a.m. We stand up and eat some breakfast before we drove to the airport and delivered the car and took the plain home.

Brink Lane - Letter to Nazneen

Dear, my lovely sister, Nazneen!

Time goes by, and I`m thinking of you all the time. Are you okay? How is your life in London right now? I got so happy last time I heard from you, and I miss you more than you can even imagine. When I read the last letter you sendt me four months ago, I felt so sorry for you. You, as the greatest person I know, do not deserve living like a house worker or a servant for your husband. You deserve a better life, and the opportunity to take your own choises.  Unfortunately that is how parts of the world are like today.

Out of what you wrote last time, I can almost feel what you are going through. Married to a man you hardly don`t know. You should do like me. Run away with a man you really know and a man you really love and want to be with. Now i`m in Bangladesh, and I`m fine. When I chose to be with Malek I did`t saw the consequences. We can never come home again, never see dad or the rest of the family. Therfore I feel so alone, and I want you to separat from your man and come visit me as soon as you can.

I want you to know that I really miss you, and I hope you`ll write back to e soon!
- your sister Hasina.

Events That Shaped English

The Anglo-Saxons
The second invanding to England was The Anglo-Saxons, and they arrived in the fifth and sixth centuries. It`s because of these group we can date the origins of the English language, and because of them, the name of the country is England.
These people were farmers and gave the language a lot of word realated to farming such as sheep, ox and earth. They also gave Words like you, is, the and that.

Scandinavian Settlement
Scandinavien invanders settled in Britain in the middle of the 9th century. The Scandinavian language, Norse, had big influence on English. Norse and Old English were quite similar because they were both Germanic languages, and had some few words in common such as give. They and take were some words English borrowed from Norse.

1066 and afterEnglish went through enormous changes after the Battle of the Heistings in 1066 between William the Conqueror and Harold Godwinson. This was the time when Old English broke Down and Middle English started to grow. The English vocabulary was extended with more than 10,000 new words, a lot of new leanwords from frence and Latin.

Standardization
In the late medeval and early modern periodes, there was a process of standardizing English. In the 16th centuary, when the printing press was used more than ever, many new and different dialects had occured, and they needed English spelling to be standardized.

olonization and Globalization When Britain started to conquer colinies and land, English spread throughout the world, on every continent. English became a world Language and the Language of administration and diplomacy. The Language was influend by a lot of more loanwords, and today we have many different varieties of English.

English as a global language

Today most of the world speak English, if not as first language, then they are speaking English at second language. Why and how did English became the moste spoken Language in the world?

hundred years back in time, English was a language formed by people who travled with boats over the sea. The Travelers was missionaries and Christians who spoked latin, also vikings came up with words that are used in English.
Years later, The British Empire ruled the world. When the British people tok controle and settle down in countries like India, English was introduced, spread around the world, and used as a way to communicate with eachother. Today the world has been so globelized that almost everybody
speaks English.
